5 out of 5 stars A guide to Recovery   May 31, 2010
LAUNA STOUT- CraftsForKids.BellaOnline (California, USA)
A great textbook for one of my rehabilitation classes. This book sets up a recovery road map. It guides you through getting sober whether through inpatient treatment or detox and explains what it will be like. Once past that phase you are on to saving your life. You can learn about AA and what it will do to help and how you can get back on track even helping you thwart temptation. Once past this point you continue to repair and can start enjoying your life, then prolonging your life and hopefully living the rest of your life chemical free. There is good information for family members to guide you if you have a chemical child, and how to live with someone in recover.

5 out of 5 stars practical, helpful, understandable text on recovery   October 6, 2009

with almost 600 pages in this book, those interested in recovery or affected by substance abuse will find a wealth of practical information about the recovery process.

each chapter builds upon the previous chapter, so everything flows and is logical.

it is not filled with technical medical jargon that could possibly confuse the reader. Instead it is a no-nonsense guide of "how to" work a recovery program.

** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED **

4 out of 5 stars Recovery Handbook   October 1, 2008

Good, comprehensive resource book for somebody in recovery. It provides a lot of specifics about recovery and dealing with life sober. I work in the field, and my client have found this to be a helpful book when faced with different challenges.

3 out of 5 stars Simplistic and much too focused on 12 step   August 21, 2008

I bought this book ten years ago, when I first quit drinking. While it does contain some useful information, it is written in an overly simplistic, almost juvenile style that I found extremely annoying. Also, although there is a brief section on different treatment alternatives, all of the advice in the book assumes that the reader has chosen to go to AA/NA, so it really isn't a fair representation of the many alternatives out there.

4 out of 5 stars Great book   September 13, 2007

This book was bought for two different people and they both have raved about how helpfull it was. I would recommend this for anyone struggling with an addiction no matter how severe.
